Successful 2011 for EUnited Valves
Jan. 19th, 2012

Twelve months on from its foundation, the European Valve Manufacturers Association EUnited Valves can look back at a successful start. As a result of the increasing importance of European legislation, for instance with the construction products and eco-design directives, well-known manufacturers in this industry formed a "Valves" sector group under the auspices of the European Engineering Industries Association EUnited at the end of last year in order to pool their interests and represent them jointly in Brussels.

Major projects such as the two product classification systems "WELL- Water Efficiency Label" and "TELL - Thermostatic Efficiency Label" have since been implemented successfully - that is, with the participation of almost all well-known European manufacturers - in response to the ErP (energy-related products) directive. At the same time, EUnited Valves has quickly managed to establish itself as an expert dialogue partner and stakeholder in Brussels.

The classification systems meet consumers' justified interest in obtaining assistance regarding information and guidance in making an informed purchasing decision. They provide transparency with regard to the performance of sanitary taps and heating valves and their focus on sustainable use of resources. The assessment criteria for WELL and TELL are of course incorporated in the applicable European regulations. "For potential buyers, taking a look at our label can be worth hard cash," commented Olaf Stecken, EUnited Valves Director, on the occasion of his look back at the last year recently reported for his organisation. "This was our goal right from the start," continued Stecken, also referring with pride to the low cost for manufacturers of obtaining a label. A good 20 well-known European companies - including the youngest participant Caleffi - with over 130 products are currently classified in the two systems.

Meanwhile, a number of additional European valves manufacturers have already indicated their interest in membership in EUnited Valves. This is all the more pleasing for the association since corresponding acquisition efforts had so far been postponed.
